Buffalo Router Issues

Hey y’all, first of all, if you need specific info, let me know. I bought a Buffalo router, like a lot of people, because the life stick sucks nuts for Leonet. So my problem is that even though I can get to configuration page with it plugged into my laptop, it’s always connected no internet no matter what I do. Whenever I try to connect my phone to the wireless, it tells me I need to sign in and then tells me “authentification failed”. What the hell do I do to fix this? Is it even possible to have my own router on Leonet?

I am not savvy with internet related things, so explain things as simply as you can please.

Thanks everyone.

Edit: I posted my current settings with things not working in the chat, if that is of any help.

  1. I think your internet connection has some level of PPOE authentication. Kinda like back in the DSL days when you need a username/password saved on the modem/router. At my last apartment in Osaka, I factory reset our router and it would not connect to the internet until we called the ISP to get that username/password. I think it is on the service sheet you would have received when you signed up for service as well.

  2. Have you logged into the buffalo config page with the admin and password provided in the box?

Is the setup done properly with the router? (Meant with cables in the proper areas and all)

  3. You need to log into leonet with the user name/password on the sheet that they provide. Once you are logged in, swap out the lifestick and connect the router. This should do the trick. You might be asked on occasion to log in, just whip out that sheet with the info when it happens.

  4. Check your Leonet papers for the PPOE and other settings information. Without the DNS address, etc, you probably won’t get access beyond Leonet, which is where you’re stuck now.

If all else fails, call Leonet’s support center and ask them to walk you through the setup process.

  5. There should be a login URL ends with /login.cgi. Install Firefox, it should instruct you to that page. Copy that login URL. Login using your Leonet id and password any time you need to logins

Also disable ipv6, it doesn’t work well with leonet.
