Changing names on utility bills (gas, water, electricity)

So the original head of household got changed to me after my roommate left and is no longer a resident card holder (he left for good). I know I have to call each company to tell them I wanna change the name to mine, but I just want to know what to expect/prepare (my Japanese is dog doo so I tend to prepare some key sentences before calling anything), because I know that not being related makes things more difficult.

I currently reside in Kanagawa atm

  1. Depending on the company you might need to provide the previous person’s info. I did this changing my wifes name to mine. You have to give a reason somewhere as well. Mine was ready because it was a transfer to family member. (although our last names are different and they didn’t confirm i)

  2. The good thing is i think you do not have to change it if your just gonna continue using it. After you want to leave the apartment you will not be charged for anything if you did not even want to pay your last payment, it will be on the persons name not you( which is your roommate before). Sometimes doing the change will make it very very mendoksai for you and even your friend because they might require him to call the company himself to cut the subscribtion then you will open new subscription or something like that, if i were u just let it be as is

  3. what if you just be honest and say that your roommate left japan for good?
see how they offer you to.solve it, if not, its their fault. you dont *need* to change the name if you keep paying it
