Hi everyone !
I was considering sending personal belongings back to France using surfacemail but I have to say I’m a bit scared of custom taxes. Would they tax a lot out of used clothes and shoes (something like 10/15kg) ? Or is it just cheaper in the end to buy baggage allowance ?
Any pieces of advice or help would be very nice !

There is no export tax for personal items, the import tax would be France not Japan.
If you send as « gift » there should be no tax.
I did the same before. I wrote “personal items” on my parcel and it never got questioned.
It took about 3 months to arrive.
The thing is, that the package got wet on the ship and also it had a huge hole.
Good thing is that I kinda expected something like that to happen. So what saved my belongings in the end was one of the Daiso vacuum bags. I put all of my stuff in a vacuum bag before putting it into the parcel box. Kept my stuff dry and also saved it from falling out of the hole 🙂
