Looking for Instant Breakfast oats/porridge

I am looking for portioned oats or porridge with maybe dried fruits, nuts etc. where you just need to add hot water. Couldn’t really find anything online, because it shows the savory japanese porridge. Does anyone know a brand that would be available at the common konbinis? A picture would also help out a lot.

  1. I know what you’re talking about because I’ve seen it overseas, but I don’t think it’s a thing here.

  2. I’ve seen it occasionally at import stores but that’s it. Oatmeal became popular in the last few years and sometimes regular supermarkets will carry it, but just plain. Not mainstream enough for conbini.

  3. I’ve seen Quaker oats pop up at OK Store before. However not portioned and you’d neex to get your own fruit or nuts. Might be an adequate compromise.

  4. You can find Quaker Oats at almost every Japanese supermarket (but never saw them at konbinis). They are also available at Amazon Japan.

  5. How about レトルト?

    Microwaveables in pouches.

They are pretty good for what they do. Supermarkets have a decent supply, and hospitals have a pretty advanced 3-meals/day box kits designed for special dietary regulations but they can also just be bought for ordinary use too.

  6. Oatmeal is available nearly everywhere. The stuff that you just add water for.

If you wanted the packets like Quaker Oats, any Kaldi, Seijo Ishii, Jupiter, Yamaya, etc will carry a few flavors. Not hard to find in the least. Just expensive if you want the Quaker Oats brand name. Normal oatmeal in a bag is like 200-300 yen for 500g or so.

  7. I haven’t seen the pouches with oats, seasoning and dried fruits in it that you just add hot water/milk to. But, you can find instant oatmeal in a large bag easily. What I do every morning is dump some of that in a bowl, add some cinnamon and brown sugar and some dried fruits and then add hot water to it. Breakfast in 30 seconds. You could probably portion a few days worth of oatmeal and seasonings in a bag at home and make your own instant oatmeal pitches.

  8. AEON supermarkets big bags of either American rolled oats (cheap) or Japanese oats mixed with fruit. Not portioned though.

  9. I’ve found Quakers Instant Oat packages at Jupiter, Seijouishi and People’s.

Edit: wait! This is what you want for ¥88 a pack, right? クェーカー インスタントオートミール バラエティー 52パック入り [並行輸入品] https://amzn.asia/d/cOPdQIj

  10. must it be hot? overnight oats with milk and whatever you want in it is easy and you can prep it beforehand. just stick it in the fridge then eat in the morning.

  11. Hmmmm as you’re looking for something sweet that can be made with hot water in particular, I’ve had a think and the only thing I can come up with is ozenzai/oshiroko.

It’s a sweet red bean warm dessert with little pieces of mochi, and you can get [instant cup ones like this from the conbini I think!](https://amzn.asia/d/i75BiGt) They’re small but a good size for me.

You could bulk that up with some oats? Or have it as is. It’s very sweet but I can’t think of any other instant/hot water sweet food, everything seems to be savoury!

This is dependant on how much you like red beans of course haha. I think it’s really yummy though 🙂

  12. Quaker Oats can be found at Donki. I’ve seen fancier options at Jupiter and Seijoishii. Just make your own museli mix.

  13. You can buy dried granola or like cereal bars / protein bars, calorie mate, vitamin jellys, or just portion rice.

You can freeze, takes like 3 mins to reheat. My wife also buys this barley mix we throw in rice when cooking- adds great fibre .I love a cup of rice with an egg cooked lightly in it some kimchi or furikake.

Huel is also available on Amazon JP I think if you need oats.

Perhaps try iherb or Amazon jp for steel cut or rolled oats, I’m sure I’ve seen it online
