Sink Pipe Cleaning in Japan – Need Help Finding a Replacement O-ring and Landlord Responsibility

Hey there,

I wanted to share my recent plumbing experience with you all. I had noticed that the sink in my bathroom was draining slowly, and it was driving me nuts! So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and clean out the pipe myself.

After some effort, I was able to get everything running smoothly again. However, while I was cleaning the pipe, I discovered that the O-ring was damaged [(see photo)](https://imgur.com/a/8OajlkL). Now, I’m not sure how to find the exact replacement for it. Does anyone have any advice on where to look or how to find the right one?

I’m also wondering if this is something that my landlord should be responsible for fixing or if it’s something that I should handle myself. I just wanted to get a quick fix on a Sunday, so I took matters into my own hands.

Thanks in advance for any advice or help you can offer!

TL;DR: I cleaned the sink pipe in my bathroom as it was draining slowly and found a damaged O-ring. I’m looking for advice on how to find the exact replacement for it and whether it’s the landlord’s responsibility to fix it.

  1. Consumables are usually the tenant’s responsibility. You can get a new one at literally any home center. Bring the old one to make sure you get the right size.

You can definitely talk to the landlord, if you haven’t lived there long, they’ll probably take care of it.

  2. A Homecenter will have one.

They are cheap and easy to replace. Just keep an eye on it for any leaks after you put it back together.
