ChatGPT recommended three Japanese Novel for beginners. Do they sound like reasonable?

Hi guys,

I am trying to learn Japanese by actively using it. Would like to hear some recommendation for novels or video games for beginner. I asked ChatGPT, and here is the response:

Sure! There are many great Japanese novels that are perfect for beginners. Here are a few recommendations:

1. “コンビニ人間” (Konbini Ningen) by Sayaka Murata – This novel tells the story of a woman named Keiko who has worked at a convenience store for 18 years and struggles to fit in with societal expectations. The language is relatively simple and the story is engaging, making it a great choice for beginners.
2. “君の膵臓をたべたい” (Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai) by Yoru Sumino – This novel follows the story of a high school student who discovers that his classmate has a terminal pancreatic disease. The language is straightforward and the story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
3. “赤い標的” (Akai Hyōteki) by Edogawa Rampo – This novel is a classic of Japanese mystery and detective fiction. The story revolves around the investigation of a series of murders that take place in a remote mountain village. The language can be a bit more challenging, but the story is gripping and will keep you engaged.

I hope these recommendations help you get started with Japanese novels!

They are some sort of light novels. What do you guys think of these options?

  1. Firstly, I would not recommend you learn from ChatGPT.

When you say you’re a beginner, how “beginner” are you?

  2. How did you make it?
I asked Chatgpt to recommend me novels, it just gave me some titles that do not exist

  3. Don’t use GPTs to answer factual questions, they are mostly useful for generating text for you. The information the text conveys can be wildly inaccurate.
