The backstory:
Toshiaki Kawada and his former mentor Genichiro Tenryu have been feuding in AJPW on and off ever since Tenryu defeated Kawada for the Triple Crown all the way back in 2000; since then, Kawada has beaten Tenryu and is the champ; Tenryu has also aligned himself with Kensuke Sasaki and the “Kensuke Office” stable, which includes Sasaki’s young protege Katsuhiko Nakajima, who partners with Tenryu here.
Taichi is of course Kawada’s long suffering apprentice, who Kawada would most notably beat and humiliate in the comedy promotion HUSTLE; Taichi and Nakajima also have a rivalry going into this match, as they are both fiery young juniors who both want the AJPW junior title.
What proceeds is probably some of the most brutal asskickings by the older guys towards the youngsters, as Nakajima pisses off Kawada quickly, leading to Kawada kicking the ever loving hell out of the young Kats; likewise, Tenryu is always pissed off, so he unleashes his brutal throat chops and boots to the head to poor young Taichi.
