Mac OS trying to autocomplete Japanese words with strange choices.

I’ve got the problem where when I type in Japanese, a lot of the time the OS is suggesting really strange alternatives. It’s system-wide, not just in one app.

For example, when I start typing a word with ボー it suddenly puts ンダイナムコグループ as the first option. It doesn’t even make sense, but I’m wondering if it’s king of a shortcut or something that got entered ages ago.

I already cleared all the text replacement choices in the settings. There were only a couple. Where else can I look for things that affect typing.

  1. Just like the keyboard has been utterly fucked in English, the autocomplete for Japanese has also completed changed.

I don’t know what it is, but both languages have been awful since iOS14 or so. Getting worse by the release.

  2. That looks like it was confusing ボー for バ and trying to complete it for Bandai-Namco Group.

    Why? I have no idea.

  3. It’s auto filling names from your contact list, no? And I don’t think it can be turned off.

  4. Autocorrect is flaky in English, too. You can turn it off in the keyboard settings if you find it’s not helpful.
