   I am applying for MEXT scholarship but there is a document research proposal which has to submitted with the application.

   I did my bachelor’s degree in computer science with a final year project and I never read any research paper or did any research work.

   Now my question is should my research proposal be specific to certain area or it can be broad like cloud computing, NLP and my research proposal will be explaining why I want to research in these areas.

   I don’t know how to proceed with the research proposal, any help will be greatly appreciated

4. The research proposal is the most important part of your submission. You can choose any subject at the moment it’s related to your field of study.

   If it’s too vague, too simple or not related to Japan in any way, your application will most likely be refused. So make sure that you know exactly what you want to research. It can be a broad subject as you asked but you need to explain why it’s important, why being in Japan is essential for this research and how you will achieve your goal.

   Remember that there’s an interview later on in the process and it will mostly consist of the content of your research proposal. If they realize it’s too shallow, you will be out.

   There’s tons of research plan examples online, you can ask questions on the r/mext subreddit or you can directly ask your embassy for more information. In my country, there’s around two week left to hand in the application for research student. If you absolutely want this scholarship, it will take quite a while to do it. Good luck!
