I think Japan shouldn’t be alone with that task. Europe, US, Australia and New Zeeland should help out too! We all need to understand that we’re in the same boat.
Yes
China having the ability to dictate terms throughout the region doesn’t seem like a beneficial dynamic for Japan.

If they have the resources perhaps they could
No
I imagine it will want to to stop having China on it’s southern flank.
Can anyone explain from the Japanese perspective what the fear of China is? Historically, China has never tried to invade Japan (frankly near impossible as the Mongolians have shown). What do the Japanese think will happen next if China successfully invaded Taiwan?
No, the entire purpose of the JSDF is to lessen the burden of the US military in the indo-pacific pertaining to the defense of Japan. If Japan can effectively defend itself from any aggression in the region it frees up resources for the US and its allies
If America does, Japan will be part of the war, full stop. The American bases there will be targets. Japan has no choice in the matter other than to cancel the mutual defense treaty and close the bases, and that’s not going to happen.
Honestly a pretty well written article without too much bias. I expected the author to say china would get shit on flat out.
No, and The US shouldn’t either.
Yes. Every nation that borders China under CCP rule should be prepared to fight China. We are already seeing a crackdown on Mongolians that live in the annexed region of Inner Mongolia. They are next after Taiwan.
I think there are diplomatic steps that would have to happen before Japan or the US actually sent troops/planes/vessels to fight against China.
Taiwan would have to declare independence and Japan and the US would have to recognize it.
The way it is now, it’s hard to justify WW3 to defend against the CCP asserting control over what the world recognizes as a province of China.
They couldn’t defend Taiwan I can say that much
They can’t. The US could. JSDF is small and weak compared to China. That’s why the US stays in Oki. The Japanese Govt doesn’t want to pay for a real military. Can’t say I blame them.
Japan will have no choice but to defend Taiwan . It will take America a while to get there in force. Japan is the first line… and they know it!
If HK taught us anything, no-one will likely do much outside slap on the wrist sanctions and public condemnation sadly.

yes.
Only Japanese people can decide that.
