Rail Pass Ticket and Magnets

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up regarding the physical rail pass paper ticket and magnets. I carried my ticket in my pocket along with my Apple magsafe wallet and iphone magsafe phone case and im pretty sure the magnetism corrupted the magnetic data on my pass. I was eventually unable to use my ticket in the automated gate and had to go thru the JR office each time and show them my pass. Not the end of the world but definitely an inconvenience to have to show your pass everytime.

  1. OTOH I had my 2 week rail pass in my magsafe wallet and it was fine. I pretty much always keep cards with magstripe stored separately from my phone and airpods as it’s been an issue in the past with things like hotel keycards.

  2. The same applies to hotel keycards, my MagSafe charger locked me out of my hotel room once.

  3. You could have just got a new pass at the JR Office for free. Mine stopped working and they replaced it on the spot when I went and asked.
