Your opinion about my background / next year moving to Japan for study

Hello everybody
First of all i would like to introduce myself
Actually I’m 27 years old italian guy, i have an high school degree in mechanical expert and worked about 7 years as CAD designer (office) in 2 company
Have a passion for japanese film since when i was in high school but i started learning seriously since 1 year
So, now I’m JLPT5 (without exam, but it is usuless i think, I’m aiming to the exam for JLPT4)
My plain is the following:
Start in October 2024 a school in Japan for mastering the language.
Apply and study for 2 years in a Senmon Gakkou of CAD designer (my job)
At the end i will have 8 years of experience in my field (i think is not a common field, is there request for this job in Japan?) and plus 2 years of Senmon Gakkou
At the age of 31-32 years old would it be hard for me to find a Job?
Or company are willing to just assume people with a Bachelor Degrees?
Or Japanese graduation from Semnon Gakkou but without experience?
I actually don’t reach the famous 10 years of request experience
What do you think of my plain?
Any advice is welcomed

  2. I think your plan is probably about the only way you’d be able to go about this goal of landing a CAD job in Japan. You’ll need to have around JLPT N2 to get into the vocational school program, and then in the vocational school program you’ll learn the specific industry terms that you’ll need to know in order to actually work. You’ll have a fair amount of experience, you’ll have the vocational school diploma to appease immigration.

As far as whether or not there is demand for your field I can’t really speak to that. I work for a medium sized American financial services company, and all of our office designs are churned out by teams in NY and London. From what I gather that’s a pretty common setup with multinationals. Office designs are more or less standardized by centralized teams at the global head office where the top level decision makers can sign off on them.

  3. I’d suggest to just work 3 more years (out of which you’ll already work 1.5 years anyways until October 2024, so it’s just another 1.5 years additionally) in Italy to reach those 10 years of experience because you’ll already have 8.5 years at that point. I’m trying to put myself in your shoes but if you’ll be attending language school in October 2024, and spend who knows how much time and money there, and start working after that, might as well just do 1.5 years of additional work instead and study in your free time. I think it will look much better if you have 10 uninterrupted years of experience in your CV. I’m also not sure if you’ll be able to reach N2 in that time. You’d spend a lot of money on both the Japanese language school and the CAD school while having no income… Just continue with studying on your own while working, and then you can look forward to moving. It will then also be easier to get a work visa.

  4. Everyone knows that living is different from being a tourist, but how can you know if you like it or not without going to a school?
Also the big problem is that many companies want to make interview while you are in Japan and hiring foreigners who are actually in Japan (based on a small research)
Also how is viewed from a point of view of an HR a 33-34 years old person that never lived in Japan? Is he really willing to hire someone without a Visa but just with 10+years of experience? (Is Japan so strict about only 2 years of gal experience? Aren’t them gapped by the 2 years Semnon Gakkou?)
