Postural tachycardia syndrome

Long story short, I had long covid back in December that lasted into the end of January. I was still feeling pretty weak in February. Had chest pain and shortness of breath and I feel like my body has changed since.

I was feeling unwell throughout the entire month of April. I was rushed to ER twice due to heart palpitations and heart rate reaching 190. The second time it happened, I collapsed and wasn’t able to get up from the floor, felt severely nauseous and I had to be carried to the ambulance by staff.

Currently resting at home, I’m feeling extremely lethargic, I have a very hard time getting up from the bed and when I do I see lights, and my heart rate goes up instantly. Besides that, my seasonal allergies 🤧 have been much worse throughout April, compared to previous years.

I always drink lots of water but I also cut off caffeine for now. I’m worried about POTS, (Postural tachycardia syndrome) but my local heart clinic just gave me a simple EKG and told me to go home. I have the symptoms: Heart rate goes up after exercise or standing up from horizontal position, feeling very tired, nausea and I have a history of circulation problems. (My legs and especially feet go purple when I sit down for too long) I also have a history of heart palpitations since 2016 that’s brushed off as anxiety. It happens when I lack sleep, or when I’m sick.

I’m also tired of being told it’s anxiety. I’m pretty sure it’s not.
I’d like to get checked for POTS and I’m looking for clinic recommendations for heart clinics. Thank you!

  1. Maybe it’s time to go home? I don’t wanna be mean, just saying you might get better medical/family/friends support where you came from.

You can try other clinics/medics, but nobody here will be able to advise you about medical problems.

    I’m sorry, wish you luck!

  2. I don’t know where you are located, but if you are near or can get to Tokyo or Sapporo, I have specific recommendations of hospitals and physicians based on personal experience.

  3. Don’t know anything specific to Japan but I experienced a lot of your long covid symptoms. If you’d like to chat to someone who knows what you’re going through, don’t hesitate to message me.

  4. I have friends who have received good treatment from the cardiology department at St Lukes

  5. Check out r/dysautonomia for some symptom mitigation. Other than that, all I can say is that you’re looking for something called a tilt table test, which is the standard for diagnosis but isn’t something every place has access to.

POTS sucks, sorry you’re dealing with it:

  6. Hi, I developed a different form of dysautonomia when I was in Japan so hopefully this will help:

Most doctors at major hospitals still say dysautonomia is psychosomatic and send you home. Your best bet would be to contact Dysautonomia International and find a SPECIFIC doctor that they have communicated with before who isn’t going to tell you to get fresh air and send you home.

Until you can find someone: Water (4L per day at LEAST). SALT as much salt as you can consume (get salt tablets!), and invest in some medical grade compression stockings.

Do NOT push yourself. Rest when you need to. Overdoing it will make the symptoms worse.

I know there was a clinic in Chiba when I got sick (in 2016) but I don’t have the specifics anymore. I hope this helps, and best of luck!

  7. So I had the same issues you are experiencing and it seems to be because of Covid but also other factors such as diet, life style choices, anxiety or bad sleeping habits. I highly recommend you quit any coffee or any caffeinated drinks, exercise is good but the most important thing you need is sleep, I am certain you probably snore when you sleep or have some sort of sleeping apnea even if you think you don’t you probably do. Your issue will go away is not long term, mine did, but it took a few months to subside, st Jude as someone said is probably your best bet, unfortunately Japanese doctors are not going to give two rats ass about your condition, you probably need some anxiety medication as well, Prozac works wonders and is the safest if you need to take meds, I didn’t want to but in the end I rather take it than keep feeling like crap, good luck!
