Damn I love watermelon season. I go through around 3 watermelons a week. Basically watermelon for breakfast and lunch. I just cut it in half and go at it with a spoon while working from home.
Got two premium XL sized watermelons scheduled to come in next month, from furusato nozei. Those are always the best of the year.
Praises to the 神様 responsible for this week’s cloudier weather in Tokyo. Last week was just terrible.
My toddler stopped pooping in his bed after only pooping in his bed for the past 5 months. I told him I’d get him a hungry caterpillar plushy, then I told him he could sleep with it but caterpillar would run away if he pooped. These past few days I go to get him in the morning and he says “MOMMY, no poop! Ibadader (caterpillar) stay.” This is the highlight of my days
I have things to look forward to again!
Next week is Ajikan concert, a real-life meeting of an online group I’m in incl. the big “nijitokoneko is not actually Japanese” reveal (which hopefully won’t be that big), Ghibli exhibition with a friend followed by tea to discuss when in September we’ll go to Osaka. 😀
I complained about my broken washing machine last week. Leopalace deservedly gets a lot of hate, but after sending an email, they sent someone to completely replace it with a new machine, no questions asked, all at no cost. Machine is a newer, bigger, and quieter than the old one!
My TV also just stopped working (SHARP Aquos where the power button on the TV blinks red, if anyone knows a fix) and they said they’d send someone and a replacement out soon too, nice.
All the furniture is from 2014 when the apt was built, so it makes sense they’re starting to break down now, despite being in good shape.
Finally officially out of English teaching and lucked into a full remote design job at a huge company for almost double my old pay. Also locked in the exact apartment that I wanted in Tokyo. Took 4 months of constant rejection and stress but I’m finally done.
Shout of to delicious desserts in japan.
Not too sweet as im usually a savory person
I somehow forgot to post my biggest praise for this week: After quitting her shitty job last year, my SO has been in school for three months to do a complete career change to web design. She applied at a nearby, non-black (at least it seems so far) company that told her that they were very unlikely to hire people with no experience and she did the interview anyway. She showed them the website she had built as a portfolio which apparently impressed them because their current person in charge of web stuff asked to meet her, and after that meeting, she got the job!
Mind you, I was teaching her how to transfer files to USB like half a year ago. She had zero background knowledge to start with. And she managed to do all this after just 3 months in school. Very proud!
KFC’s Red Hot Chicken is back! Yaaaaayyyyyy!!

But come on! just make them a regular menu already…..
Saw a delivery guy with a package outside my apartment and he took a look at me and said “o-“ and told me he had a package for me. He apologized he was late too and I said iie iie ^iie ^iie ^iie ! And he said I was a good guy. Wtf that made my week especially him recognizing me. I live in a super busy place in tokyo
Fiber is finally getting installed on Monday after I gave up on NURO following 2 months of waiting for 工事.
Going to Sushiro after work today, eating very little (two protein bars) to keep the calorie budget high so I can stuff myself with TUNA.
Obligatory TGIF
Another one: this week I fell asleep and left my clothes overnight at the coin laundry. The staff moved it to cart as usual but noticed I was using a garbage bag. They left a packaged big nice shiny costco style bag and note saying thanks for being a regular customer.
Lost my wallet when it fell out of my bag in a taxi. Being from the US, I’m sure it’s sayonara visa, money, credit cards and all. Knowing I’ll need a police report to replace the visa, I grab my passport for ID and rush to the police station nearest where I caught the cab.
*And my wallet’s already there!*
But they don’t tell me that at first: Four officers (2M & 2F) look on with seeming grave concern about my misfortune while my spouse fills out the report that I can’t even read. They look it over, line by line, as if it’s the most important thing they’ve seen all day.
Then, one goes in the back and returns with my wallet – everything intact. These same solemn officers are now all smiles as they witness my sudden mood swing.
I say “Oh, I wish I could thank this kind taxi driver.” One says “Sure,” and calls the guy up.
After I thank the driver profusely in my broken Japanese, he responds “My pleasure. Now, it is for you to do a good deed at your first opportunity. Do so.”
The end.
I got my period today. Naturally. And the flow seems to be alright. I think I might cry ðŸ˜
It’s really big for me- I hadn’t had an actual period without the help of progesterone HRT since April 2020 when I developed what was basically an eating/overexercise disorder.
Fat boy Friday

Got to ride the fancy fancy seats on Kintetsu Hinotori from Osaka to Nagoya. Seat warmers? Check. Leather seats? Check. Automatic recline into clamshell so you don’t have to ask people to recline? Check. Hot coffee machine on board? Check. Beautiful countryside? Check. And all for a very reasonable 5,500 yen.
After being scolded by the vet and us, my lizard has finally started to eat her veggies in the morning, when the both of us aren’t in the living room to watch her eat. I guess the girl likes privacy. And wilted bokchoy.
At least in the morning it was TGIF, but I can’t help but feel terrible for Akie-san. Can’t imagine what she is going through.
Been vaguely considering switching jobs. Had to update the resume and fill out some stuff for the recruiter. Got that all turned in on Wednesday, as of today I have two interview offers in.
Liking the current slate of kikangentei at the conbini. Habanero Hot Famichiki and Cheese-Filled Karaage-kun are both pretty good.
Weathers great, TGIF, seeing Thor tomorrow.
Stayed up til 4AM fixing a website live in production. I’m glad it’s over.
I complained about the logistics of moving off a remote island yesterday, but on the flip side: I’m so ready to move off this island. It’s been an amazing experience, I’m super grateful for it, and I doubt I’ll ever get the chance to live in a place quite as beautiful again. But I am so ready to be able to buy groceries whenever I want, be able to travel/go to the hospital whenever, and be a part of society again. There’ll be times I miss it for sure, but when those feelings arise I’ll just go buy some strawberries and remember that I didn’t have the option to get any for 3 long years. T-minus 17 days.
Got invited to a rather nice sushi restaurant for lunch, enjoyed a fantastic meal, and then got offered some steady video editing work for a side gig. It’ll be nice to do something in the creative field and get paid comfortably for it.
Blessed be the coin flipping, dart playing gods at immigration for the 5 year, non-instructor visa
I’m just generally happy regardless my confusing work situation (management seems likely to be replaced sooner or later). Overall the pay is good and I actually don’t have to work so hard to the point that I have so much brain capacity to do other things.
Doctor’s appointment ran hella late and I was gonna be late to work. However, the gods of traffic smiled down upon me and I had all green lights and no traffic for my entire commute.
Flabbergasted, I wandered into work earlier than normal and have been having a pretty solid day so far.
I started taking probiotics recently and oh lord, my bloating all gone! Wish I knew about probiotics earlier…

I ate amazing cannoli 🤌🤌🤌
My baby was released today ahead of schedule
Praise to the crew at this podcast called *Behind the Bastards*, whose episodes about a certain important individual in not-so-distant Japanese history have been extremely eye opening.
I found a house today! We have a cat and a larger dog so it’s been a real challenge finding one that fits our needs and accepts us. The house is so close to a beautiful park and has a light and airy place for me to put my school desk and exercise bike. I could not be happier than I am today.
I’ve dropped my grueling care taking job at a facility for disabled persons where I had been working for 8 years and went back, completely burned out, to working at a 7/11 thanks to having experience and even getting a qualification in a Lawson. After only one month, the guy who was doing night shifts suddenly quits, and I get to replace him.
Since, I’ve been working 11 hours a day 5 days a week for 2 months, overtime paid with all the social cover and all and am earning so much more than before!! How comes sitting on my ass at the back of a store gets more paid that having to run all night between 30 patients, changing their diapers while preparing their breakfast between two hand written night shifts reports?! No PCR kensa every week anymore, no bathing these same 30 patients in full apron, mask and gloves in the heat of a slippery bathroom 2 hours a day.
I’m so happy I could cry.
This morning, I almost gave up two hours before job interview-but I decided to attend; and it was one of the most exciting discussions I have ever had this year!
Tonight, I had a promise to meet one of my friends but he was late. So I was no longer in the mood and asked to cancel it before he asked me to wait. I waited and it was sooo lovely to meet old friend ðŸ˜
Just got back from celebrating my friend getting a job!
I found an appartment i will live in with my friend during our university years
While checking out what [someone said about soy sauce in a comment in another post](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/x13xkb/soy_sauce_and_allergic_skin_reaction/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) about about allergies.…
