Tokyo and Kyoto Itinerary

Hello ! My husband and I will be going for a short trip from 12-20 May to Tokyo and Kyoto. This forum has greatly helped me to plan my trip (we rarely travel coz kids and lack of funds). Thanks so much guys!

Our plan is to just relax and take it all in. We didn’t book any fancy restaurant and plan to jus drop in to anything that looks appealing or just 7/11 or lawsons food.

Please take a look at my schedule and let me know if I could make it any better.

Day 1 (12 May, Fri)

arrive at Narita 7.40am. Buy Suica and activate JR pass
Store luggages at shibuya station
explore shibuya city / shibuya crossing
Cafe hopping (little bakery Tokyo, Starbucks Reserve Roastery, Fuglen tokyo)
check in hotel
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Explore Kabukicho at nightime ( see Godzilla )

Day 2 (13 May, Sat)

Tsukiji Outer Market
Kachidoki Bridge
Itoya Ginza
Ginza Diamond Shirashi
Rest at hotel
Suga Jinja Shrine
Explore Shibuya city

Day 3 (14 May, Sun)

Shibuya Sky
Gotokuji Temple
Explore Shimokitazawa
Ogawa Coffee laboratory
rest at hotel
explore Harajuku (takeshita street etc)

Day 4 (15 May, Mon)

breakfast at Tokyo & check out
take Shinkansen to Kyoto
leave luggage at Kyoto hotel(allowed)
Arashiyama Bamboo forest
%Arabica kyoto
Check in and Rest at hotel
Explore Gion, Hanamikoji street, Pontocho & Kiyamachi Dori

Day 5 (16 May, Tues)
Hokan-ji Temple
Sanneizaka Ninnenzaka
Go on Kyoto Tram (randen Arashiyama)
Nishiki market
Kyoto Takashiyama
Fushimi Inari Shrine

Day 6 (17 May, Wed)

Wake up early to explore Kyoto
check out and take Shinkansen back to Tokyo
Visit Harajuku ((takeshita street)
Visit Asakusa (Sensoji) at evening & nighttime

Day 7 (18 May, Thurs)

Go to Odaiba to check out Gundam
Unko museum
explore Harajuku and Shinjuku
photoshoot at tokyo

Day 8 (19 May, Friday)

Explore Shimokitazawa and shibuya

Day 9

check out and go to Narita at 10pm

I would greatly appreciate if any of you could also suggest appropriate clothing and attire for the weather at that time . Google forecast says the weather is around 15 to 23degrees Celsius in May.

  1. For the stay at Kyoto, try making reservations at the restaurants so you won’t have to worry about dinner plans. Most decent restaurants will need reservations and there weren’t many options after dining hours. The scene was a bit different than being in big cities. However, I recommend Gyoza Hohei if you like goyzas. They don’t require reservations and a small wait.
