Help getting a sim card and a phone

Hello,

I just came to Tokyo under a week ago (have been in quarantine until now, due to a passenger on the plane having covid, yay) – and I really need a phone to make calls, but also to find my way around as I have no sense of direction.

I tried to google it but the few foreigner friendly site I found only sold the Sim card, not the phone?

Any advise on how I can go about this?

  1. You could always head to your nearest Bic Camera or Yodobashi; they have loads of phones.

  2. I went into my local Softbank to sign up for a mobile plan, they even had someone who could speak English. I’m sure they would happily sell you a phone at the same time.

  3. When you go to get a phone, I think its best to get one made from a foreign country because phones made in Japan have annoying clicking sounds when you try to take a picture (this was implemented as law for creeps who try to take upskirt photos)

    That’s all I know; apologies!

  4. You can look for Y-mobile or docomo or AU shops to buy both a SIM card and a phone
