What is this used for? It’s from Japan and used for food apparently

Hi! Anyone know what this is?

  1. For beating rice into mochi.

This one seems to be for big amounts of rice though, a smaller wooden mallet called kine is usually used for just one family serving size.

  2. Looks like a suribachi or Japanese pestle, but I don’t know what it’s tied to.

Edit: should actually be surikogi instead of suribachi

  3. That’s what grandma use to hit us with if we used a metal spoon in the rice cooker!

  4. It is a traditional wooden pestle for grinding sesame seeds. I’ve used that kind of thing since I live in Japan.
