Trying to stay motivated

I have been studying Japanese on and off for the last 3-4 years. I live in the Netherlands so i don’t get to see the language except for when i look for it, and i find it hard to stay motivated when i can’t use what i learn. I hope you guys can give me any advice🙏🏼

  1. * write down your study times

    * set a goal to study X minutes per day

    that’s my main trick

basically don’t worry about motivation, just study that amount and you are good

  2. How much progress have you made? Can you keep up with native materials? If you’re into anime, manga, TV dramas, music, films, novels, or games, you can switch over to consuming those materials in raw Japanese and track your progress that way, by how much you understand. I find that pretty motivating, personally, at least.

  3. From what you’re saying it sounds like you’re looking to speak it as soon as you can…you might not be able to “just” bump into a Japanese person in your country, but there are so many places where you can just casually use it online, no matter what country you’re in.

You could use places like HelloTalk, discord (if you join a Japanese server), or just online discussion boards that are full of Japanese natives. If you’re a gamer, you could get a vpn and play your favorite multiplayer games while connected to japan which would probably pair you up with Japanese natives.

There are many ways to find Japanese natives to talk to casually, you just have to find the way that best suits you 🙂
