  1. Why TF no drug store near me sell any COVID-19 test? In my home country, drug store is the first place you go when you need to buy some test.

  2. PSA–a friend of mine, with his wife and HS-age kid, decided it was time to travel again, so per his usual summer travels they left for Bangkok, with a plan to then go into Cambodia. Shortly after they arrived in cambodia they all came down with covid–whether they got it in BKK, or on the way into, or after getting to cambodia is not known. They’ve made it back to bangkok and are recovering there. Knocked him back hard, wife and kid are doing better.

He’s US, but wife is japanese and kid is dual, and those two had been planning to visit their relatives here (to have been here already was the original plan) while he stayed back down there for a couple more weeks. Last I heard, the wife and kid have yet to test negative, so can’t decide on travel dates to here, then tickets, and so on.

They were all fully vaccinated and boosted (not sure, I think pfizer), and still got it. I’ve asked, but haven’t heard back what strain they got, or if they’re being tested for that (if it’s BA.4 or 5, which the shots appear to be less effective against).

Totally messed up their trip, and they’re not in the clear yet. Going into cambodia–sure, that could be criticized–but he’s run a small charity for years that had done some work there in the past, pre-covid, and he wanted to get back to that (methane generators, a building or two for schools, health center).

    Be careful out there.

  3. Arrived in Tokyo earlier this week. I was excited to meet some Japanese friends but because of COVID it won’t be possible. コロナが終わってから. It feels a bit lonely.

  4. Currently in the USA:
Tested positive for covid last week. I’m feeling much better today. I return to Japan in 3 weeks. But I read you can get a positive covid test result up to 3 months. What are my options if I get a positive result when I’m getting the test to return to Japan? Will I be able to return?
Do I need proof of recovery?

    I am fully vaccinated

  5. Are the 4th shots on their way for everyone? I don’t see anyone talking about it on tv.

Osaka has it set for August for me so I’m okay I guess, but I just wonder why vaccination isn’t mentioned on tv at all anymore

  6. Is anyone aware of a hospital in Ota Ward (or as far North as Shinagawa, as far south as Kawasaki) that is offering vaccines without appointment/接種券?

I’ve lost mine and it’ll apparently take two weeks to be issued a new one. The Ward office suggested some hospitals with excess vaccine stock would be able to take me without a vaccine coupon but couldn’t tell me specifics.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Simple question that I could probably google, but since I have a reddit tab open I’ll ask here:

Do I need to do anything special for domestic flights right now? As in, do I need any pre-flight tests or vaccine certificate?

  8. Whew, the next wave is officially here. I have friends who are in the middle of their COE process rushing incase Japan does anything drastic again before they can get their visas made. 😬

  9. Planning to have a vacation back home next month for a month. Hope they don’t restrict returning foreign residents again.

  10. I’m all for “reopening” and getting on with things, but COVID and Omicron are no joke. After never having COVID as far as I know, I got sick two weeks ago. Symptoms weren’t life-threatening, but not light either. Was the sickest I’ve ever been for a few days. No pre-existing conditions. Cough, phlegm, and chest tightness/pain still lingering. Hope I don’t come down with long COVID.

But the kicker is that I’ve been vaccinated SIX times. 3 times in Japan and 3 times in the US. 2x Pfizer, 2x Moderna, and 2x Moderna booster, starting in June 2021, with the last booster less than a month before I got infected. Do a lot of flying and traveling, even during pandemic, so I wanted all the protection I could get. And I STILL got fucked up.

  11. I am scheduled for a conference in the US next week, just two and a half days. I just got my flight details from the organization and I’m arriving at 5:30 pm on Tuesday evening and leaving at 8:00 am on Friday morning. This leaves a very short window for getting the PCR test required to come back to Japan.

When I went to the UK, I grabbed a Fit to Fly PCR appointment and got the results in 24 hours. I’m having trouble finding something similar in Washington DC. Does anyone know of such a service/clinic?

  12. So what is the current deal with getting family visitor visas? My cousin and his fiancée want to come and see me, is it possible?

  13. Updates from Kishida today:

    * Government not considering any new movement restrictions (Mambo/SoE) at this time
    * Hospitalisation numbers, not case numbers, will inform pandemic response going forward
    * 4th shots will be offered to medical workers and nursing home staff

  14. Is there any place I can get a certificate of a positive PCR result in English? I would like to keep it when traveling to show I have recovered, if necessary.
