How to cook frozen pastries in a toaster oven…

Hello, not sure if anyone can help with this obscure issue.

I bought some frozen pain au chocolat from Picard earlier today. However, I tried baking them in our Toffy toaster oven and they burned on the outside and were raw on the inside. The oven doesn’t have a temperature setting. My husband tried changing the settings but it didn’t work. Does anyone happen to have any advice? Otherwise a bit gutted about having to throw out a bag of expensive pastries 😢

  1. Don’t microwave them. In fact never microwave any bread products. That’s a basic.

Just let them thaw overnight at ambient temperature. Then in the morning, preheat your toaster oven, and bake them as long as instructed minus 5 min or so. Within a few minutes, put a sheet of foil on top to avoid burning, remove that sheet for the last couple minutes so it gets its golden color.

  2. Put them in tinfoil, that will help with the burning, then when they’re just about ready take them out to crisp

  3. Thank you everyone – based on your advice I’ve decided to that them overnight and try and bake then tomorrow!

  4. They don’t have directions on how to heat/cook them? Are they actually raw and need to be baked or just frozen and need to be thawed? Microwave for short bursts should be fine(frozen cinnabon and stuff like that has directions to microwave for example), and finish it off in the toaster, or I’ve bought frozen garlic bread before that had directions to wrap in foil and heat in the toaster oven for ~8-10 mins and finish off for a couple minutes without the foil to make it crispy and that worked beautifully, although I needed to use the foil a bit longer personally since it was still cold in the middle.

If they’re actually raw you’ll need an actual oven not a toaster oven

  5. I buy those, they say to put in a heated 180C degree oven for 20ish minutes.

The issue here I guess is that you can’t really ccontrol the temperature directly in a toaster oven.
If you know the max power/output of your oven you can try to lower it so it can be in the expected range you need.

For what’s it’s worth, a toaster at full power should reach temperature up like 230-250C.

  6. You can bake bread & pastries in your stove in a Dutch Oven (Heavy Casserole Pot). You can buy them from IKEA.
