Topic: What is something interesting you changed or discovered, that worked really well for you?

Examples:

For me, I used to struggle trying to learn kanji via the meaning and sounds, didn’t work well. I decided instead to focus on learning the words I knew, and I started to recognize them and held MEANING to it.

I’ve also switched from trying to get words off a vocabulary list, to ONLY pulling them from context, and I’m having a lot easier time understanding them 🙂

I’m currently working on a way to ditch flashcards almost entirely, HOWEVER, I did notice when I switched from regular to SPOKEN cards my retention shot WAY up.

  1. Grouping kanji by similarity in shapes, rather than sound or meaning. Idk why it works for me, but it does.

  2. spoken cards? are you recording audio yourself or using an add-on to download them from jisho/somewhere else

I tried to use the jisho sound support add on but a lot of the audios were just straight up totally different words (with the correct word in the filename tho) idk what I did wrong lol

  3. I switched to JPDB and that helped me tremendously. I was able to learn only the vocab that I need for the content I like.

Another thing I find really cool is watching Japanese TV through an app on my phone. But using a Google Pixel phone that has automatic Japanese Captioning.
