research back on track, pulled the oshi in one set of gacha pulls, Zemi OB/OG mixer tonight, and looking forward to Tokyo with a bunch of friends next week. After taking a bunch of Ls last week, this week could not be any better.
EDIT: oh, also, those tiny shopping baskets in the candy aisle. I just can’t even. When kids use them it’s soooo cute
Climbed Yarigatake in the off season. Was scared about the last bit to the peak because I had never climbed vertical rocks with crampons and axe but made it up with no problems. Feeling very accomplished and a bit sore today!
Have not had to deal with any GW crowds
Praise to my aircon for letting me sleep last night. I can’t really get a breeze going in the room at night and the stagnant air was killing me. I can’t wait to move somewhere surrounded by field and forest rather than other buildings.
I killed a Website yesterday after some sort of update on the server. I thought I’d have to back out of a family outing, but I was able to diagnose and fix the problem in about three minutes instead of spending hours trying to find the solution.
Also, the elodea is blooming in an outdoor fish tank, and it looks pretty.
Bought some game DLC from the US Playstation store forgetting that it wouldn’t work with the Japanese disc I owned. Five minute online chat with the Sony staff and full refund. Surprisingly pleasing service.
Bought a 2 person tent last week and excited to try it out today at nearby riverbank with some bbq and stuff along with my wife . Small picnic makes happy memories.
Posted yesterday on the complaint thread about my dad dying last week. Got tons of PMs from strangers wishing me well. I know this sub gets a lot of shit for negative, shitty people, but there are plenty of good shits here as well. Thanks guys.
Went to the Kirby Café pop-up! And I also tried bouldering this week!
Shout out to JR for having a toy shinkansen driver control panel at the front carriage… a real saver for parents of a toddler
My wife, two-for-two this week.
1.
Wife – Can you send me pictures you hsve of the little one?
Me – Sure, but why? You take a bunch too.
Wife – You’re better at making her smile.
2.
*puts some clothes in the washing machine while I shave after a shower, pauses on her way out*
“You’re getting all muscley in your chest and shoulders.”
I know it’s the one week where we don’t have work, but my new work location is:
– Friendlier admin, even going out of their way to include me on things I normally wouldn’t – Smaller and more manageable – Great coworkers – Less workload – Much, much closer to home – Only downside is that going to the gym after work is more inconvenient
Also finished the part-time Masters I’ve been doing on the side! Bittersweet feeling that it’s coming to a close.
The weather has been lovely in Sendai all week with the temperature getting progressively higher! I came back from Australia last week to cold and gloomy weather so it’s really nice to start seeing some proper spring weather.
Another praise, I’ve been trying to train for a triathlon this year. My big weakness is running but I feel like I’m getting better at running longer distances and my overall fitness in generally is improving. There’s still work to do but it’s good to start seeing results!
I feel really blessed to work in a positive environment. I am part of national projects instead of only working with international matters, 100% home office possible so I am considering very seriously moving out to countryside, my boss pushes me to take as many days off as I can, we are told to not use our business items (phone and computer) outside of working hour despite being in a tech oriented company, no overtime forfait they are paid each minuted passed over regular working time. It is tough because I don’t have any JLPT though I locate myself between N3 and N2, and most of the work is in Japanese, I get quite tired but it’s not anxiety or stress tiredness, mostly my-brain-can’t-yet-handle-a-full-day-in-japanese tiredness.
I refused a job offer 2x more paid in my homecountry in France with good working conditions, and I was very much afraid of having a toxic work environment as there are plenty in Japan, so it’s a real relief!
Plus a 5 years zairyu card, so no paperwork for few years!
Fired up the weber on Wednesday and cooked a couple of kilos of chicken breast for the time. Turned out amazing and tasted even better cold the next day. Will definitely do it again soon. Praise to me folks for the sweet bday present.
Having an amazing time in South Korea
Lots of good things. After a month of struggling to do my work during weekdays and ending up stressed on weekends, I actually did enough before GW to enjoy the vacation without guilt.
We’re not going anywhere for GW but we planned small activities to do around and it’s a nice resting vacation.y step son is really into tennis since high school, and I used to do some when I was young so I took him and a few bukatsu friends to play together. We all had a fun time and I got to see him in a different environment. Very nice!
Also my partners’ mom suddenly decided to buy some land nearby for us to build a house. Good times. And my partner got a new seishain job with nice pay increase.
After a rough year start, April has been full of blessings.
Amazing weather in Tokyo today. At the park eating lunch in the shade and napping in the sun.
Got back from Taiwan on Monday and a week of doing nothing but occasional housework is exactly what I needed.
I impulsively ordered a knife because it was on sale (and is just the right size and color!), but it turned out to improve my cooking process a lot. Really happy about not struggling with cutting meat or vegetables anymore.
Edit: more good things! I managed to write a few hundred words on this paper I’m struggling to write. Not as much as I planned to write, but it’s still good progress. Then I cleaned and reorganized my previously messy table and now it’s the cleanest it’s ever been! It was a massive eyesore before but now it looks very fresh and tidy 🙂
I got under the bathroom sink, removed the U pipe and cleaned the gunk that was slowing down the water draining even after trying liquid drain cleaners. First time in my life, but a success!
Recently got into collecting gacha. Found a full miniature guidebook for Paris. Always blown away by the wackier and unique things you can get.
Okay I posted twice in the complaints thread yesterday so I feel obligated to post in the praise one too lol. Forcing myself to think of things to be grateful for and ramble about 🙂
* I posted 2 weeks ago about my boyfriend being depressed/angry at me, blaming my grocery shopping for his weight gain and telling me to not buy him ANY food. That fight seemed to kick his arse into gear, we came to an agreement about several things and he’s now down 3kg :)))) * My favourite mug from England got smashed (an ironic Queen’s Jubilee celebration mug hahaha), and I was struggling to find a replacement that wasn’t tiny. Finally found a gorgeous 500ml glass mug in Zara Home 🙂 * My mum sent me a (late) Easter box full of Cadbury’s chocolate! Mini eggs and crème eggs. Heaven. Also sent me my favourite hydrocolloid bandaids from Boots haha. * Went to my favourite light up event at Kodaiji in Kyoto and had a lovely time :)))
Despite my compliant on the Complaints thread. Hokkaido specifically Sapporo is the best place ive ever been to in Japan. Despite the one or two incidents , I found most people extremely friendly and genuine compared to Kanto. People are in general more cheerful which really brightened me up. Also I met my best Japanese friend who lives there and had a great time with her. It was strange when I came back to Tochigi , I was literally shocked at the contrast of how gloomy and hostile people can be here and in Tokyo compared to Hokkaido. Furthermore the nature is exquisite and is like a mixture of Japan and northern Europe just like the architecture. Sapporo is so clean and nicely designed. It was a breath of fresh air. Never been to Seattle but I love movies set in Seattle and love the look of the houses and Sapporo houses remind me of Seattle Sapporo is my favorite metropolitian city in Japan so far. Beats Tokyo by 1 milliom miles. My friend suggests that maybe a move to Hokkaido may do well for my mental health as my time in Japan has been very mixed. However maybe I could be wrong and it could be just me being excited about a new environment. So I should be careful.
Who else just loves Sapporo?
Edit:The one hesitation would be the weather. Im a warm weather boy. However I think the most important thing is being surrounded by a more welcoming environment.
1) after 2 days of golden week wherin I did absolutely nothing I finally got myself to study today! About to have my 4th focusmate session
2) ONE sensei for writing Mob Psycho 100 and Studio Bones for adapting it all with so much love. Finished the 3rd season a couple weeks ago and still reeling at how good this is? I think the world rn needs more stories like this.
3) found out that my issues with deadlifting were due to weak grip strength, getting myself lifting straps fixed it!
4) the drugstore nearby stocking these low carb high protein spicy cup noodles that are 188 calories with 11g protein?? They literally taste no different from normal cup noodles it’s so good
5) living in this internet era where I have access to all this art through the internet for basically nothing- best album find this week has to be YoungQueenz’s 2020 album 神隠 Spirited Away. Cantonese rap by a HKer post the 2019 protests. A harrowing album about grief, heartbreak, loss, religion and searching for meaning/justification for injustice- literally got worried for him after the last song and had to Google if he is still alive (thankfully he is). If you were invested in/knew people that were participants in the HK protests it’ll hit hard. The mixing does an amazing job of creating this immersive but jarring dreamlike atmosphere, if you can read Mandarin script the lyrics are on Genius and they’re beautiful. Checked, Google translate does do an okay job catching the vibe of it.
6) black people, for creating and popularizing hiphop/rap as we know it today. Only started actually getting into it recently- raised conservative Christian in SEAsia and any kind of music that wasn’t mellow pop or hymns were considered “demonic”- and I regret never getting into it earlier. Truly a medium of expression with tons of potential to be powerful and beautiful, to challenge the boundaries of art and language. To Pimp a Butterfly>>
We started and finished planting rice today, went smoother than last year.
My company name tag broke at some point on my commute and disappeared. Looked all over the streets for it and even went back to the office, and some kind soul (a man in his 40s, the report says) had taken it to the police! And when I went down to the station, I got it back with zero hassles. All I had to do was sign and stamp a document. Props to that stranger!
Second is the students in the adjunct classes I teach. Their efforts and inquisitiveness are amazing. One of them decided, on the last question of the homework, to go on an extended excursion about the pronunciation of the Greek word *evangelion* through the centuries and then added (with a written “Oh!”) that she now knows that it’s 福音 in Japanese. She was entirely correct even though this class won’t be covering the modern era; I almost want to make some changes so that we can talk about what she’s interested in!
I changed my wardrobe yesterday, I am ready for the summer now.I woke up at 5:30 to buy eggs at nearby convenient store (I live in Sapporo). My praise is not about getting egg but the truck driver who drove with the stuff. He was so punctual ( as the shop clerk told me). I always appreciate those drivers but especially today.
