Hello!! I’ve started learning Japanese by my own yesterday and i wanted to know if there was any good apps or websites to learn too!

Hi! I’ve started learning Japanese by my own yesterday and I’m using the app “busuu”. So far I’m doing great honestly but I wanna do more research and learn from other sites too, not limit myself to just one so i thought this might be the best site to ask.

What app, website, youtuber, book, manga, etc… Do you recommend for beginners?

Thank you beforehand!

  1. Sidebar guide. Search “beginner” in this subreddit. Nothing has significantly changed recently.

  2. Once you mastered hiragana and katakana you can learn kanji on wanikani the first three levels are free and if you feel committed you can pay for the subscription.

Kanji garden is free too I forget if that one you need to pay for more lessons. There are other free apps too focused on kanji like ringotan or Learn Japanese Kanji.

I’m sure you’re aware of anki deck there’s plenty of good decks. Tango N5 MIA deck is really good. I’d recommend you find a page on here that has the link. Edit: here it is

Finally, Genki or Tobira or Minna no Nihongo are recommended textbooks it’s up to you to decide which one you’re comfortable. Genki 1 is popular because there are many resources online and Tokini Andy has a channel specifically designed to follow along.

  3. No apps, no websites, no books, just straight to Youtube. If you like to watch anime, watch them in Japanese with or without subtitle.
