Is it possible to automate the anki deck creation?

I would like to pass the lyrics of a song to anki and let it automatically create cards for unknown words or sentences.
Does anybody know of a quick and efficient way to do this?

  1. I’ve quickly created decks with included audio in the past by using the subs2srs program on Youtube videos of songs and manually adding lyrics, if softsubs were unavailable. I also use the Morphman addon for Anki to sort my cards so I learn new words one at a time. It keeps track of the words I know.

You can also export cards on the fly from the Android apps Jidoujisho (multimedia vocabulary mining), Readict, Typhon (epub only reader, but could work for you if you convert a text file) and Akebi (dictionary w/pitch accent). Some similar browser extensions include Yomichan, Migaku and Language Reactor. Kindle and Kobo ereaders also have community-made PC programs that let you extract words from your dictionary lookups and highlights to Anki.

These all use their own Anki card type, but some can be customized via export settings. Typhon and Kindle are particularly handy because they also grab the sentence that you encountered the word in. I don’t use all of these tools, primarily just Typhon and Akebi to export words from things I’m reading.

If you want a streamlined experience, LingQ includes most of the aforementioned features, including vocab tracking, and may support Anki export. I tend to stick to free or one-time-payment tools for my mining setup, but that is a popular option.

In short, I generate cards from all over the place and Morphman helps me reorder them to study more efficiently.
