Anyone seen this? I walk around probably 2hrs + everyday and on semi-regular occasions notice groups of guys posing with their anime dolls or figures in the park. I find it kind of amusing but also interesting that there’s groups dedicated to photoshoots.

Otakus gonna otaku.
Heh, if you spend 1man+ on a figure, why not get your monies worth.
People take those or printouts of idols, if they are broke, to cafes to shoot pics for socials.
Welcome to JP.
This weekend is Comic-Con Osaka so if you’re around there that might be why

There are specific cafes where people pose their figures, stores that sell all sorts of dioramas, accessories etc. Normal stuff for otaku
Normal otaku stuff. I like to do ぬい撮り sometimes which is taking pictures of my stuffed animals (usually Kirby) outside
Just a hobby. There are a lot of otakus/fujoshis who’d take photos of their acrylic stands and plushies and whatnot so doesn’t surprise me that people are taking photos of figures. Or, it could be that they’re taking promotional photos for their products?
It’s pretty common, the “groups” are probably friends within one fandom, meeting up for events and helping each other take photos. Female otaku also do similar things, bringing dolls or acrylic standees to cafes or tea party or to a park for shoots etc.
That would rank among the least strange things I’ve witnessed happen or being done in parks here, tbh.
It’s a relatively benign hobby: buying figures and then photographing them. There is a fair amount of skill involved in setting up, lighting, and photographing lifelike dioramas, and the best results can be amazing.
A man’s gotta have a hobby.
At least it keeps them off the streets.
It’s not common but some people do this in Japan.
Other people take photos of their plushies as well. It’s called ぬい撮り in Japanese. When you search the hashtag, #ぬい撮り, on instagram, you’ll find many.
please refer to “groups of guys” as “men of culture”!
People do that all the time with their RC cars or plamodel.
Did I miss the r/japanlife meetup? Ugh, not again.
Yea all the time. What’s wrong
Does that bother you? Let me them be smh
Leave them alone asshole
I’ve found in Comiket some photographs artbooks displaying figures in nice settings. Not the worst hobby!
I’m just gonna say it, that shit is creepy. Like some straight up pedo shit. It’s not normal for grown men to play with little dolls of little girls and make them pose and take pics. Seriously some pedo shit. Fucking weirdos.
