20 Days Itinerary in September for a First timer

Greetings,

I am planning to visit Japan in the near future, most likely this itinerary will occur during September (Typhoid season) and I from what I read that is not a reason to cancel the trip but I would like to hear your opinions. If you have any suggestions or attractions to add I’m open to hear your opinions!

I also want to ask if you think a budget of 3000$ USD (excluding international flights) will be enough for this trip or if I should decrease the number of days. For transportation we will be using a 14 days JRP during this trip.

You might notice that some days are packed, but the must visit will be bolded and anything else can be dropped if we didn’t have enough time.

Day 20:

Leave 🙁

That was all, I hope I did make a good job and would like if anyone has any suggestion (especially for Tokyo, I think I didn’t give it justice for the attraction unlike Kyoto which is very packed) and thank you in advance!!

  1. I will say as someone who lives in Japan that some of your days are packed full of temples and although a lot of them are beautiful, you might get tired of them after seeing so many. Also, I saw you said typhoid season which did give me a good laugh because I’m assuming you mean typhoon season. I hope to god there isn’t a typhoid season here or I’ve been living under false pretenses. For that, I’d say just download an emergency app that will send you warnings ahead of time so you can know and plan accordingly. Definitely not fun to go outside during a typhoon!

  2. Looks like fun! I can’t comment on every destination, but I can safely say your Day 11 is too packed. Higashiyama is its own full day. Fushimi Inari is a half day in of itself. Some people recommend doing Fushimi Inari and Nara on the same day since Fushimi Inari is on the way, but considering how much you want to do in Nara, I don’t think that’s feasible.

  3. You seem to be visiting the same waterfalls on day 15 and 16. Given the long winding bus ride from Nikko up to lake Chuzenjiko and the falls, I’d do all those on one day and the Nikko sights on the other day (the day you travel back to Tokyo).
