  1. Hello all!

I’m an English speaker but I’ve recently grown very fond of Japan’s culture and was interested in learning their language. I have absolutely no experience and I was wondering about which apps I should start with, and what I should focus on first.

Also if you have any tips that would help I would love to hear them.

    Thank you all so much!

  2. What are some SRS apps/software like Anki (especially its customization) for mobile because the Anki apps like 25 bucks?

  3. Hi folks, I’ve been on this reddit for a while, but hadn’t said my hello yet. I’ve been working on my Japanese with Duolingo for the past year or so, but recently decided to take it more seriously. This will actually be the third or fourth time that I pick it up. First was some evening classes during university, then a minor during uni, and finally a year-long program after graduation that I was lucky enough to get into. It included a six-month internship in Tokyo. All of this was over fifteen years ago. I passed one of the JETRO tests when I got back from Japan, but have forgotten a lot since then.

Now that I’m studying again, many things come back quickly. My vocabulary is very rusty, but conjugations and sentence building is OK. I’ve started Wanikani and will probably work my way through the Dictionaries of basic and intermediate Japanese Grammar. I’m listening to some podcasts and have done some graded reading material from Tadoku, but it’s tough to find the right level. All of the N5 stuff is quite easy, but I don’t think I’m ready to jump into any actual books or manga just yet. The main thing holding me back in that regard is that all of my study so far has been in polite form, I have very little experience with casual language.

Any suggestions for immersion material for a returning learner?

  4. How do you express the concept “full of” as in, “The cup is full of water” or “the lake is full of algae”? Are these different expressions or can they be expressed the same way?

    Thanks
