I’m looking for protein bars but most of the ones I can find here are whey based. Containing some dairy is fine, but I’m looking for ones that don’t contain a lot of whey. Let me know if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks!
commenting since I’d love to know too. Japanese people sadly don’t for the most part care about such stuff
There’s a soy protein bar from Savas, search for 明治 ザバス(SAVAS) ソイプロテインバー. ≈17g of soy protein, ≈225kcal, though does contain (traces of?) dairy. You can find these at konbinis too, but not always.
There are also the Kellogg’s ケロッグ 素材まるごとプロテインバー with soy protein and nuts mixed in. These taste more natural to me, and are ≈10g protein for ≈190kcal.
Savas soy protein bar was good. I find the majority of plant based protein bars do not carry enough protein(usually around 10g, when whey protein bars usually has 15-25g), so there are not many choices available for me.
iHerb sometimes has nocow.
Soyjoys aren’t plant based?
Just buy a few packs from MyProtein (foreign company) online. They have many vegan options. You can also get some vegan tofu bars in convenience stores these days – Lawson sell a couple under their natural Lawson branding which are also available in other stores under the company’s own branding (Tofu Protein, it might be called). Other brands like 7-11’s usually contain fish extract etc.
They sell [Healty Soy Choco bars](https://cake.jp/item/3400929/) at 7-11 and it’s probably one of the few protein bars I’ve actually enjoyed eating
Not a big sweet tooth myself, so I usually go for the Tofu Protein bar that you can buy at mybasket. 9/10gr per bar, very light taste, 128¥ per bar.
The issue is whether you want low-carb or high-carb and high levels of soy or not. Soy and carb are both allergens and good low-carb products have dairy. I have to import from Amazon US as low-carb dairy-based products have yet to be embraced by Japanese makes except for one, but it is a protein shake mix. iHerb might be an option; the prices are reasonable.
