Visiting girlfriend

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of applying for a Visa under exceptional circumstances to visit their partner in Japan.

We are an unmarried couple that were living together in the U.K. she is back in Tokyo for work at the moment.

  1. If you’re not married, it probably won’t mean a single thing to Japan. You’ll have better luck just waiting on the borders reopening.

  2. Get married, get a job, apply for a school (can even be language school which is easy to get admitted) or waiting for tourist reopening. Otherwise, dead end.

  3. While I was getting my work visa I’ve seen people cheering for receiving their tourist visa. They might had some relatives there though…

  4. Unfortunately it’s not going to work. They won’t count it as exceptional circumstances unless you are married. I looked into it and ended up marrying my wife recently (we had already been dating for five years at that time) in order to move here and by pass the visa restrictions. They won’t show interest at all unfortunately.

  5. Currently, that only works if you are married. You will have to get married, or if you both can somehow afford the time and money, meet up somewhere else to spend time together.
