Job Applying without Degree Certificate?

Hello, I’d like some advice or insights about this. I’ll be completing my degree course in June 2024, but apparently the school will only print my degree certificate in April 2025 due to staggered student intakes.

Is it possible to apply to jobs with only a course transcript, or a statement letter saying I’ve completed by course? Im worried companies won’t consider me without my degree certificate copy.

Thank you in advance!

  2. Don’t worry about it because it’s completely normal for Japanese companies to make an “unofficial” (which is pretty much official) offer to fourth year students to hire them later upon graduation.

  3. I think for my whole 10 years in Japan, I was asked for my degree certificate just twice. The first time when I moved to Japan and the company needed it to apply for my COE, not as part of the screening process. And the second time a gaishikei asked for it as part of their background check. In all other cases, my employers didn’t mentioned it at all. And sometimes they explicitly stated that their position does not require a degree.

  4. You probably won’t need it for job hunting, but you will absolutely need it when the time comes to apply for the visa.
