Cheap quiet beer in Shibuya

Anyone have any hot takes on a sub-¥1,000 beer in Shibuya? Often find myself with an hour or two to kill between jobs so somewhere I can get a beer that’s not a ¥1,600 craft ale would be nice. There’s always Hub but anything else would be appreciated.

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. Mikkeller? Not the cheapest but its hidden in the back alley near love hotels so qualifies for a quiet spot.

  3. There are a couple Kirin City’s in Shibuya that are usually pretty quiet. Not expensive and the beers are ok. Plus I think they open from noon.

  4. How about Ibrew Ebisu? – I know it’s not Shibuya – but it is walkable or better if you have a train pass – about 2 min from the station and today they have 11 craft beers for 690 yen a pint – mind you they also have higher-priced craft beers as well.
Updated: forgot to add they are open so early…noon I believe and the ebisu one is not crowded until the evening. Shimbashi one is my fav for that shitamachi feeling and the Ginza one is my preferred one to talk to locals about the beers…

  6. It’s a hub sister chain but have you been to 82? They have a similar menu but a little more craft and I usually go for the whisky selection. Unfortunately the shibuya one opens from 17:00 but other locations like Akasaka I frequent is open during from noon.

  7. It’s halfway between Ebisu and Shibuya and open from 1700 to midnight Monday to Saturday:

  8. If you want cheap or quite, simply leave Shibuya

Most restaurants serve beer that costs 400 instead of Shibuya prices

  9. Craft beer alone there’s tons of places to hit up, though it will depend on what’s on tap for sub 1000, but you never have to buy food or pay otooshi.

People here have already mentioned mikkeller (there’s 2!) and ibrew, I’d also throw in good beer faucets, pdx tap, and maybe tap and crowler.

For harajuku threefeet and dig the line are the go to, but more of a bottle shop.

Oddly enough craft beer joints may overall be the cheaper option since there’s no extra fees, unless you tryna go to a senbero or something

  10. Sub 1000? Which places have you been going to, I have never found anything thats expensive ahahaha

  11. The Aldgate? It is a craft beer place but they also have mainstream lager on tap.

    Convenient location as well.

Early hours are usually quiet, not sure later in the evening.

  12. does anyone know some sweet little standing bars in Tokyo? my favourite couple closed and haven’t shown any signs of reopening. I’m open to most parts of the city.

  13. I remember the Hub in Takadanobaba from years ago. Is there one in Shibuya too? I didn’t know that.

  14. Respectfully it’s easier to find a beer under ¥1000 than over! Throw a stone!

  15. Tap and crowler might be worth checking out. They’d a little pricey but u might find some good craft beers around ¥1000

  16. Tasuichi in Shibuya used to be ¥300 beer but I haven’t been there for years
