Zoff vs. Owndays vs. Jins

For those of you wearing glasses and having experience with one or more of the three mentioned companies, could you share your thoughts regarding quality, service, differences between them? I was considering shopping around for a new pair of glasses since I’ve been using my current pair for over 4 years now (purchased at Takeda Megane).

My father bought from Owndays over 5 years ago and his pair of glasses still hold up today, with little to no scratches on the frame or lenses. I was impressed with that and was curious to try one of the companies for myself.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to any responses.

  1. I have been a Jins person for a while. On my 2nd pair, the first lasted 6 years. The RX was made correctly (got the RX from an opthalmologist) both times. My daughter also has had two pairs from them with the lenses always being made correctly.

  2. My Zoff glasses rusted within about two months of wear. Cheap and quick but not built to last.

  3. I moved to Jins a few years ago after going to other places (Costco, regional place). They give you discount coupons around your birthday, which is nice. Since I have terrible eyesight and astigmatism I can’t get my glasses within the day or whatever that most places promise, but they usually get back within a week or two.

I’ve been looking at Owndays recently, I like their selection.

The biggest issue I’ve had is the fit on my honky-tonk cracker jack nose and face. Zoff never seems to have anything that looks good on me, so I just leave them. I do check out their selection every few months, just in case.

I feel like the prices, especially with discount coupons, can be nice enough to get a good selection. Also both Jins and Owndays have glasses with magnets where you can attach a sunglasses piece.

  4. I’ve had Jins and Zoff. No real big differences. I’m still ugly regardless.

  5. I have a pair of seiko made in Japan frames that I have been wearing for 7 years now and they still feel comfortable…. can’t remember where I bought them though

  6. I bought a pair a owndays in higashi ikebukuro, it was a (too) quite place and it closed. Then my glasses metal bend a few month later (still under waranty) and went to the nearest one in ikebukuro much more busy. I was ok for reapair but they told me it needs to be replaced. It was under warranty but I have been told to pay 5K (which is 1/2 of the initial price). I asked why do I have to pay as it under warrant and I have been told like ‘shiranai yo ask the company’ showing that he was really pissing him off. I saw that the metal frame was bent while I was cleaning the glasses so I felt a bit gulty, I paid and got my new glasses but this guy wasreally bad. And guess what 5 month later same bending issue and this time I don’t know why … of course I wont go there again, never. I bought a cheap one at BikKamera and I am thinking about Jins because they have a similar model …

  7. I went with Jin’s and have been going back for prescription sunglasses and reading glasses. I think the service is great. You have plenty of time if you feel the prescription is off, they’ll exchange them for free. The same with the tint of the sunglasses.

Have no experience with the others though, and they might be even better.

  8. Jins has a lot of special lenses which they can make for competitive prices. I have a pair of transitions and a pair of their anti-fogging glasses and they’ve been great and lasted a long time.

  9. Zoff for me ..jins dint had ‘big’ and colorful frames which suits me ..at the time! Birthday discounts there are cool too!

  10. I have both Jins and Owndays. Both brands have frames in different ranges, from cheap and basic to ones made from more exotic materials, or with convenient features like detachable sunglasses. I have progressive lenses from both, and the quality seems to be the same.

  11. Has anyone found any luck with american sized faces? I can’t seem to find glasses that fit my face.. my current frames are 45 18 135 and it has been absolutely impossible to find a premade metal frame in this size. Particularly, the eye sizes all end up going way out to the sides haha

any advice for tokyo would be awesome!

  12. I personally go to Owndays because they have branches in my country, so I can get it cleaned and repaired when I’m there too, which is pretty convenient. Idk where you are from, so you might want to check, if it’s important to you. No idea about quality difference since I haven’t tried the others. I think there are some subtle style differences between the three. As far as I observed, Jins seem the most basic and safe, Zoff has a more variety, and Owndays have styles/subbrands that are very “young and trendy.”

  13. I know this isn’t one of the choices but I was pleased with my pair from Paris Miki

  14. I’ve bought from Zoff and Owndays. Owndays was a bit slower and a bit cheaper.

  15. I can’t speak for Zoff + Owndays, since I usually get mine at Jins, but the biggest benefit for me was the 6months workmanship guarantee. Frames/Lens can be replaced up to 2 times within that time frame. I scratched my Lens about 4 months in, as well as the nose pads needed to be replaced. Covered.

Really depends on how careful/careless you generally might be.

But whatever shop offers frames that suit your look should be fine.

  16. I had a pair from Owndays, they lasted me about 5 years before the screws that hold the arms on came loose, but that’s an easy fix. The bronze color coating also started to wear off around the same time but they still look pretty good regardless. They cost me 8,000yen, but my optician in the UK said they were some of the highest quality lenses she’d ever seen.

I also have two pairs from Jins. One plastic framed pair that are still completely fine after 4 years. They were like 5,500yen but they’re really sturdy.
And one metal framed switch pair(can convert to sunglasses with magnetic plates). They cost me 11,000 but started falling apart after less than a year. The screws that hold the lenses in came loose, so it’s an easy fix but I wasn’t expecting it so soon. Got quite a surprise when the lenses popped out into my oatmeal one morning.

  17. Jins is nice but the quality is always a bit… debatable. I’ve had all my frames from them break in one way or another within 2-3 years. They’re often able to fix things up, yes, but I did have one occasion where all I could do was switch to another pair of glasses.

  19. Hi everyone, just checking into the thread and wanting to say a big thank you to all who replied. It’s very insightful! I’m currently looking at a frame and lens combo from Owndays. I’ll take a look at Zoff as well since there is a shop in my living area.

  20. I’ve always been pleased with the results from JINS, especially for their prescription sunglasses.

The only minor downside is that if you have a non-standard prescription, they’ll have to send away for your lenses to be made, which takes about a week or so.
