New job – wife gets coverage too?

So I’m starting a new job as a Seishain/FT worker. I’m supposed to sign the contract tonight.(I’ve looked it over, is good)
It’s indicated that I’ll have social insurance/health/unemployment coverage.
My question is, does the company have to cover my wife’s as well? Or is it optional for then?
Additionally, does coverage start automatically from the signed date, or the effective start date?
Thank you!

Edit: Thank you for the responses so far. I should have mentioned that she is a dependant.

Edit 2: Will the addition of a dependant be automatic or do I need to inform them?

  1. Your company should cover your wife’s as well so long as she doesn’t earn more ¥1.3 mil annually.

  2. They don’t “have to”. If she’s a full time employee, she should be covered by her job. If not, she can join your insurance, along with any children you may have

  3. >from signed date, or the effective start date?

You’re covered from the date you start employment.

    >does the company have to cover my wife as well

As another user pointed out, For your wife to be covered she has to be earning less than ¥1.3 million per year. This would make her eligible to be enrolled on your company health insurance (so she can deregister from national health insurance once she has proof of enrollment) and it would make her category 3 insured for pension. This means her national pension premiums will be paid for via your employer. So she can also sort that out at her municipality office too once she has proof of being category 3 insured.
