Personal Recommendation for Japanese learning courses in Japan?

Hi everyone

I can see this question has been asked many times in different ways and I am sorry if I’m repeating it.
But I really wanted to know if there is anyone who has experience with going to language schools in Japan? and what school you would recommend?
I’m looking for something that is good for beginners but a bit intensive as I’m not interested in culture activities which a lot of schools offer as I have seen when searching. What I idealistically would want is an intensive course for 1-3 months so that when I’m done with the language school I can travel without any hassle and navigate around without too much help from others or apps.
Because I think it’s a lot of money to give out and I don’t see any real thorough reviews of the schools ( I have looked mostly at [languaginternational.com](https://languaginternational.com)) I thought to maybe try and travel with Workaway and learn that way to save some money but I just feel like it would be difficult to learn by myself or the person learning might not be a fit for teaching me?

  1. Why not take classes in your home city and then visit Japan for fun as a tourist? I feel like there is no reason to be in Japan if you’ll just be in a classroom studying everyday anyways

  2. I heard coto is good but I didn’t attend. It seems to be around 4,795 USD for a 24-week”intensive” class

also weigh that against how much hiring a tutor for 1-on-1 lessons will cost (e.g. let’s say 20 dollars for a 1-hour lesson, 5 times a week for 100 dollars total per week), but only if you are motivated to do 90% of your study by yourself and only use the tutor to guide you and get conversation practice and correct your mistakes.

if you are not motivated to study without the framework of a class (and that’s fine, no shame in that) then you might discard my tutor suggestion

  3. I’ve recently done two weeks of double classes (8hrs a day) at Kudan institute in Tokyo after 2.5 years of classes once/twice a week in sydney.

I’d recommend it. But note they classes move fast we did 4-5 chapters in each class in two weeks (they used different books as morning was conversational and afternoon intensive).

I’d recommend only doing one class a day (4hrs) and making sure you put aside time to write up notes and learn vocab to keep up with classes.
