Woodworking Products – Need An Oil

Hey everyone, I’m looking for tips for a Japanese oil for a dining table I’m refinishing. Back in Canada, I used this oil from Lowe’s that I loved. It was easy to apply and really easy to maintain. One coat, wait 15 minutes and wipe it off. Nothing else needed.

Omnia Natural Oil – Grenoble

Has anyone seen a product similar? I tried to explore my options at my local hardware store, but either my Japanese is terrible (it is!), or they don’t sell this type of product here. The hardware store guy kind of just gave up on trying to help me 🤣.

The table is a nice slab of oak and I’m going for a medium dark color.

  1. Hmmm. I recently stopped by Tokyu Hands to get a water-based varnish and they have loads of oil-based products as well. Perhaps you could check over there? Or look at Amazon/Rakuten to see what you can get but recently buying on those sites has gotten quite expensive.

Good luck on finding what you need!

  2. Wood finish/varnish is called ニス.
    They should definitely have them.
Not sure what “natural wood oil” contains, but I’ve bought linseed oil 亜麻仁油, boiled linseed oil 煮亜麻仁油, Tung oil 桐油, and polyurethane finishes ウレタンニス off amazon jp.

  3. when I did a search for 木工用オイル there are a few that I think are what you’re after, you want something that’s an oil with a stain, right?

This product popped up with a few colour options, have a search for: オイルステインA 油性木材着色剤 (can’t do links, sorry!)
