Hey guys! I preordered Tears of the Kingdom at my local Lawson, and was wondering if anyone wanted to share their experience with preordering a new game at Lawson or any conbini.
One thing I’m really curious about is what time you were able to pick up your game. With convenience stores being 24/7, you would think I could waltz in a midnight and pick up my game, but further research online shows that the store will probably get a shipment at some point on release day, and I’ll be able to pick up the game at some point after that. (Once I get my email that it’s ready to be picked up)
I know it will depend on what part of japan, and probably even differs between individual stores, but I would love to hear your experience! I want to pick it up asap and just wanted to get an idea of what is typical haha
Thanks!

Can you preorder physical games at a combini? I thought the ‘pre orders’ were just codes for the digital version.
Can you preorder the link amiibo too from Lawsons?
Ages ago, when Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu came out, I preordered it at the local 7/11. Midnight on release day rolls around, I eagerly pull out my receipt to show the cashier, and am met with amusement and the information that, as you said, the shipment will arrive at some point during the day. I went back home, slept off my shame, and returned in the afternoon. The pickup process itself was unremarkable. Again, I just pulled out my receipt to show that I’d preordered and prepaid, they confirmed the game title, I said “thanks” and was on my way in less than two minutes.
I preordered Final Fantasy VIII in 1999.
Ran to the local 7-11 at 7:00 am on the day of release to pick it up.
Was probably the first gaijin in the world to play it.
In general, you should be able to pick up after either 8am, 12pm, or 4pm depending on your lawson and when their shipment comes in.
They always make sure it gets there on release date, but not at midnight.
I did it a few times during the DS era, specifically at the Family Mart around the corner from where I was working at the time.
Since I had Saturday morning lessons, I was able to stop in before class and grab *Dragon Quest IX* on the day of and have it on hand to impress all my elementary schoolers.
You might as well ask the conbini folks directly what time to expect it to be available.
Got pokemon SV at 7/11. Received an email the day before in the afternoon with the time I could go pick it up, which was release date at 8:00, and you have 7 days to pick it up. No setbacks. No experience with lawson though, sorry.
