Isn’t that a hardware issue? If you don’t have the Japanese NFC chip what’s the point?

I have a Google pixel 6 and it does ic cards. iirc i had to download a certain app to get it to work well. I use the pasmo app.
Please update if this works. I’m under the impression that non-Japanese pixels lack the required hardware to use the IC functionality, but would be happy to be proven wrong.
Do create a follow up post if you have any success!!
FWIW, in my Japanese Pixel 7, it’s TQ2A.230405.003.E1
Definitely keep us in the loop. I believe there is a high probability that it may work.
I know there is some Android code available as of last month that can be loaded on rooted phones that flips the saifu-ketai app check in the kernel. Meaning you can load and execute saifu-ketai enabled software — but actual functionality would be based on whether or not the phone has the SE code embedded. I think the Pixel 6 may very well have it.

For those questioning the hardware, NFC Type-F is rarely in hardware anymore (only certain low powered devices) and is now embedded in software and executed through a software secure element. The phone build still needs the secure code to enable Type-F. All of the other non-payment functions will work regardless since they use NFC Type-B.
There is a guide for people who have done the opposite – changed their JP model to a global model for the Pixel 6. It looks like in comments that a number of people did the opposite (Global to JP), but most are commenting they did it with the 7 or 6a.
Do all this at own risk, you may brick your phone. Let us know how it works!
If we could flash some of the amazing phones coming out of china to work here, I would be so happy…
Theres is a massive lack of phones here compared to other regions.
I would love a xiomi 13pro or oppo X6 pro
Yeah this is exactly what I did with my US bought Pixel 6 before coming to Japan. Just follow the instructions on the XDA thread and you can change it to the Japanese firmware. I have Suica, iD and Quicpay all working on my phone.
Saving this, good luck, OP
Also if I am not wrong you don’t need to flash the JP build. It might brick your device.
What you can instead do op, i s root your device and change the model number that will activate the felica feature. Because the hardware already exists, software doesn’t so you can trick it. This is easier to check and revert the changes if it doesn’t work.

Is there always a camera sound with a JP Pixel?
