Are memory foam mattresses (NITORI etc) really hot to sleep on?

I bight a memory foam matters because, well, all the affordable ones are memory foam.
Back home everyone had spring mattresses. I am finding the memory foam really hot to sleep on- my back perspires at night, and I am from a country much much hotter than Japan in May.

Am I the only one experiencing this? Or is this a common memory foam mattress problem? What did you do about it? Currently my mattress is on the floor, I am going to get a low slatted bed to get some air circulation under it.

  1. It’s a common memory foam problem. I bought one of the N-Cool mattress covers and airism sheets and that seems to help.

  2. I tried a few foam things, they are all terrible without air conditioning, and even then they don’t release body heat well, I would roll around trying to find a cool spot. Finally swapped to spring coil when I moved into a bigger place.

  3. That is really surprised me.. Just wanted to buy one. My old one is a spring. It was twice cheaper and it hurts in some places. I feel those metal on my back

  4. I’ve seen a memory foam mattress topper that has gel on only one side.

The idea is that in winter you put the foam side up to stay warm, and in summer the gel side to stay cool.

Never tried it, but I’m curious about it. Anyone has one of those?
