So I’m going Japan in a few weeks and I see pocket WiFi is essential.i seen one called foxwifi and was wondering if it’s legit because the prices seem too good and if you don’t know, you guys got any good recommendation
if you’re travelling alone just get an esim or sim (sakura/mobal)
I used ninja wifi. It was good and fast and easy.
No, they aren’t essential. Your needs depend on your situation.
If you just buy a sim from Mobal, you can pick it up at the airport and you’re good to go
Dumb question since I’m going soon. Why is a pocket wifi essential? I was just going to use my cell phone like I’ve done in dozens of other countries, but this will be my first time in japan.
We used esim from Airalo app. It was super easy to install. Did it one day before flight. Price were totally fine too
I used Fox wifi when in Japan in 2018, it was easy pickup at airport and just had to post it back. They also provided a power bank. It worked well for two of us with multiple devices to connect.
I’m from the states and we just used our phone plan which on AT&T and Verizon is max 100$ (per month) with unlimited data
If you have unlocked phone with e-sim capabilities, Ubigi is a good app for pre-paid data and top-up options.
If locked, pocket wifi. Can’t really go wrong with any of the ones you order in Japan. I ordered a pocket wifi from Japan Wireless for $4/day for 2 weeks. Worked great, even underground and mountain tops. Since it was unlimited, we used 30 gb between 2 people cause some of our hotels had shit wifi.
If you stay for 2+ weeks, look into your phone provider’s international plan. T-mobile works really well in Japan.
Regardless, get a data plan. The public wifi is spotty and unreliable, even in busy areas like Tokyo and Kyoto.
You already paid a lot to get to Japan. What’s $30-100 for ease of mind?
I just used wifi wherever I could find it and I survived lol
I was traveling with 2 others and just decided to do a data roaming plan with my carrier. It wasn’t that expensive, it allowed me to split from the group and not worry about being able to contact people or use my phone and it was easy and convenient.
Unless you are traveling on a shoestring budget (and there are only some situations in which I’d agree it is responsible to travel while being so strapped for cash), I’d look into how much a data roaming plan with your regular carrier would cost and I’d Google search your phone model and carrier to see if it can be used in Japan.
I believe it cost my around $100 with Verizon but my friends on ATT paid $10 a day for unlimited talk, text and data for the first 10 days after which they could continue without paying for a month.
If u need to take a dump, you will be anchoring your travel companions to the shitter with you
I used eConnect. Also cheap and really good, you just have to keep it charged.
I’m travelling round japan right now, 2 weeks into a 3 week trip and using ninja pocket WiFi. I recommend it! I got the unlimited plan.
