I’m looking for YouTube channels in Japanese that make video essays about games, anime, visual novels etc.

Do you guys have any recommendations? Video essays in English are pretty common, especially about topics like video games, tv shows, anime, manga etc. I’m assuming they are also popular in Japanese YT (even if they aren’t, there must be at least a dozen popular-ish channels in Japanese with that format). Either reviews of works of fiction, or analyses of the plot, characters, or anything related to that, but not Let’s Play type videos, those don’t interest me.

  1. Does that mean with subtitles? There are of course many videos of that kind, but I don’t think there are many with English subtitles. If you don’t need it, there are so many that I don’t know what to recommend. Do you have a specific game or anime title you like?

  2. https://youtube.com/@toshiookada0701

Talks about a whole bunch of stuff in detail and his opinion on them.
He also makes materials to show you what he’s talking about. (He was talking about back to the future and he made a whole model set to explain things)

  3. どぐら’s channel has freaking amazing content where he invites players of fighting games old and new and has them talk about the best and worst characters in their games. The way he laughs at how absurd Meta Knight was in Brawl in this video kills me.

  4. Interestingly enough I was looking for similar, couldn’t find anything. I did find commentary channels but not the kind of channels you’re thinking of. Something like a proper matthewmatosis style of video essay.
