Is it viable to move to japan for 2-3 months?

I’m writing my thesis next winter and I thought why would I do it at home when I could go to Japan and do it and get the experience of a life-time?

Is it entirely unrealistic?

Is it possible to find relatively cheap accomodation from abroad for a short-term duration. Ie apartment rental through an agency? Anyone have any recommendations or, things I should be aware of (As EU citizen I have 90 day visa free travel)

  2. I mean, you’d be there on a tourist visa, you’re not working, so as long as you have the cash to pay for your trip, you’re good to go!

You will not be able to enter a regular apartment contract, but Airbnb, business hotels, hostel, furnished short term apartments, etc are all available. No idea what you consider “affordable,” though.

Certain things to think of though— will you need access to books, journals, etc to complete your thesis? How will you do that? Will you need to schedule regular meetings with your advisor? How will that work with the time difference? Are they willing to meet virtually? Will you actually be able to get work done? Or will you just want to have fun traveling around?

  3. I recommend sakura house or sumyca. You can find very very cheap accommodations through sakura house and nicer, but still very affordable, places on sumyca. No need to deal with the standard process of getting an apartment through these services – they work very well with foreigners.

  4. Totally doable and would indeed be the experience of a lifetime.

Just get a cheap accommodation for 80 days or so and have the time of your life.
