I’m currently reading a book in Japanese and have stumbled across this symbol. I’m not sure what it means? I assumed it was similar to 「何とか何とか」but I’m no longer thinking that’s correct. Have any of you seen a similar symbol in literature? Do you know what it means?

Isn’t that just an ellipses in brackets? It’d indicate a pause.
Ever played a video game where, in the midst of dialogue, one character only shows … without words to show a hesitant pause or inability to say more?
