Install bidet toilet seat.

I want to replace my basic toilet seat with bidet toilet seat but the water valve is stuck so I’m not able to stop the water supply and plug in the connector for bidet.

I am afraid if I put too much force and the valve breaks or something, I might end up flooding the apartment.

Does anybody knows who can help me with the installation – maybe a plumber? I don’t know Japanese so if the plumbing services connect through email or line, it would be easier for me as I can use translator to talk.

Please feel free to post any other suggestions.

  1. Get a plumber if you are uncomfortable. You need to shut of the main and drain the water prior to messing with a valve you are concerned about breaking.

I did not do this. It was a mistake. I didn’t know where the main was and valve broke. It was 10 bathtubs of water in the house before I found the main :/

  2. If you have a main valve to turn off the water for your whole apartment, you can close that instead. It’s usually placed near the water meter. This is the easiest way. To check if you were successful, flush the toilet. If the tank doesn’t fill up after that, you’re golden.

If that’s not possible, try to get the valve unstuck with a bit of WD40 or other penetrating oil (give it half an hour time to work its magic). You can also try a moderate amount of heat to get the corrosion moving a bit and get the valve unstuck this way. Don’t overdo it with the heat, you don’t want to do damage to the gaskets etc.

    Good luck!

  3. Hi, you’re also going to need to swap out the o-ring most likely, as it has deformed exactly once, years ago, and when you reset the threads it may not be good to go. When it fails, as they often do, you’d have just a few beads of water up to an unpleasant dribble; neither are acceptable.

Fortunately, these are easy to find in any home center. As others have said, if you’re not comfortable with it, call a plumber. While you’re considering that, make sure you’re happy with your faucets in your sinks. If they dribble or fail to seal correctly, your plumber has the right wrenches to get it open and reset in seconds, whereas you’d have to go fiddling around getting the right spanner.
