Old codger looking for IT work

Next year I hit the company’s official retirement age, after which they rehire everyone on a 35% salary cut.

However, I would rather not have that cut, so it would involve looking for a new job. The company has a big old boys network for Japanese manager people, and our career officer said I’d be better looking at foreign recruiters.

I’ve been out of the game so long, but what kind of options would I have for finding work in Kansai in particular?

  1. Are you working for a Japanese company or gaishikei?

An old colleague of mine (in the “previous company” sense and also he’s 60 obviously) had some luck claiming this was ageism to the global HR team and arguing it was against the global diversity and inclusion policies the company was touting loud and high. They ended up maintaining his salary though he was no longer a director, on the condition he kept this a secret from other Japanese employees.

  2. Heck yes. We’re looking for an engineering manager at the moment. Preferably remote. How’s your Japanese?

  3. Is 60 the forced retirement age? I thought it was 65? Is it different between Gaishikei and Nikkei?

  4. I misread that as “coder”. We’re looking for old “coders”, but not “codgers”, sorry!

  5. How is this not ageist and discriminatory?

Also people are living longer than say 50 years ago, I don’t see the company presidents and VPs taking 30% cut salary when they turn 60
