Hello, I’m meant to be moving to Japan this summer for work, I am 23 and will be travelling alone. I’ve been doing some reading and talking to some Japanese friends of mine over some concerns and problems I should be aware of when moving and one that I’ve seen and has been mentioned a lot is the danger of going to Japan alone as a women.
I know their is that danger there however this time when going I’ll be alone (my friends all live outside of Tokyo) I’ve tried to see what safety precautions I can take such as putting work boots outside my door and being in contact with someone.
I still feel very scared of this as some of the stuff I’ve heard of is groping and sa that’ll even go as far as stalking, I have also read and been told that Japan isn’t the most progressive when it comes to rights for women for assault ,as to even go as far to not allow women to defend themselves.
Has anyone got any experience of this as a foreigner and/or what have you done to try and prevent or keep safe?
This has always been a worry but I’ve read even more into it recently and feel very concerned , sorry for the long post.
