Does Nintendo Japan repair/replace joycons (drift) for free?

I read that in many countries it is free to send in and get repair/replacements for joycons due to drift.

I tried checking Nintendo Japans website but all I can see are paid options or that wide guard repair subscription service. Is that all there is or is there an option/link I’m missing?

Does anyone have experience getting the free repair or know if it’s even an option here?

  1. I had the worst joycon drift for years. If your switch is under warranty, they’ll repair the joycons for free. If it’s not under warranty, you either need to repair the joycons yourself (I did this through a kit I bought on Amazon. Took 10 minutes for less than ¥2000) or buy a new switch.

Edit: sorry, I forgot to add that Nintendo Japan will repair the joycons, but it will cost you a lot more money than doing it yourself.

  2. I’m pretty sure they will, assuming you bought your joycons in japan.

However, I had the same issue and picked up a DIY kit at donki for like 1500yen and completely fixed my joycons myself in like 10 minutes. It was super easy and I have no experience tinkering with electronics and am also a total idiot but it was fine.

  3. Not for free but I do think they have a service called “ワイドナケア for Nintendo switch”. If it’s no longer under warranty, you can subscribe to the annual plan for 2000 yen but repairs will be possible after one month has passed after joining.

    From their page:
    自然故障に加え、水濡れ、破損にも対応しており、年間合計10万円(税込)の範囲で最大6回(そのうち本体交換を伴う修理は2回)までの修理を保証します。修理品の発送・受け取りの際の送料も保証に含まれます。

    Edit:
My apologies, seems I missed the part where you already checked their page for services. Will leave this in case others are interested

  4. Hate to ask, but is motion/tilt control turned off?

I (and apparently a lot of other people online) was raging about my joycons’ ‘drift’ issue a few months back and it just turned out to be the damn motion control… :/
