I like Jsho for Android, especially because it doesn’t require connectivity
There a good thread comparing denshi jisho and app if you are willing to pay (i think it is worth too). Personnaly my 20 YO denshi jisho is still my ultimate ressource.
Other wise for quick lookup on the web I use [https://kotobank.jp/](https://kotobank.jp/) which is quite good BUT you need an adblock because ads are incredibly aggressive (as on most of japanese free site). With adblock it is very peaceful and good resource. It looks like the goo one but with better presentation (good is really early 2000 design).
I use Yomichan (browser extension) with J-J dictonaries on PC as well as on my android and it works offline as well and with mutliple dictonaries. In android it doesn’t work with chrome so I use Kiwi browser for that.
If you have an iPhone/Mac, there’s one built in (スーパー大辞林). Go to dictionary in settings and enable it. Look up by tapping a word and selecting “Look up”.
The monokakaido app is only for Apple devices but the thread is useful for everyone.
Paper dictionaries take a long time to search so might not be ideal now.
I have a copy of 新明解国語辞典 on my phone. It’s a nice dictionary and reasonably priced from what I remember, so that might worth trying. But honestly, most of the time I much prefer using yomichan for look ups.
There are around a half dozen jp-only dictionaries for yomichan that you can find pretty easily if you do a bit of googling. Being able to compare definitions really helps imo, especially when you’re still getting used to jp-only dictionaries.
The other big advantage yomichan has to my mind is the ease with which you can export look ups to Anki. 新明解国語辞典 doesn’t really have a way to do that, at least not one that I was able to find.
Monokakido dictionaries for iPhone, hands down best interface. You do have to pay for the dictionaries.

Just throw it in weblio or goo辞書.
Not sure about apps per se, but as far as sites there are a couple I’m aware of: [weblio](https://www.weblio.jp/) and [goo](https://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/srch/all/%E5%9B%BD%E5%86%85/m0u/)

If you want more options I use this app https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dictionaries/id1380563956
The cool thing about this app is that you can search and cross-reference across multiple dictionaries. I have a J-E J-J and Kanji dictionary.
There are 6 国語 dictionaries on that app, including fan favorite J-J dictionaries for intermediate learners Meikyo and 三省堂.
I started adding JP definitions recently to Takoboto Android app, although it’s really jp-en first. Feel free to check it out.
You may be interested in [this wk thread](https://community.wanikani.com/t/monolingual-dictionary-corner/58250/22), specifically the monokakido app mentioned within. I believe you may have to pay for the dictionaries in it however but they do go on sale
Edit: I should add its iOS only
This is a great monolingual dictionary thread.
