Spam Calls

I’ve been getting a bunch of spam calls recently from weird numbers. I was hoping to find out if anyone here has seen numbers like the ones I’m getting calls from.

The numbers seem to be U.S. 1-800 numbers, but after the 800 is 8 digits, not 7. I tried looking them up online, but couldn’t find any info. The one time I decided to answer, it was an automated message speaking Chinese I believe. Literally haven’t gotten a single auto call till these started on the 12th.

Anyone have any info

Numbers so far have been
+180074922652
+180022841102
+180040524611
+180071008716
+180078764859

  1. I’ve been getting lots of spam calls from a company that rhymes with Decibel Consulting lol

  2. These have been going on for years, they’re scam calls aimed at Chinese nationals, using spoofed numbers.

Very commonly it’s a shakedown call claiming to be from the Chinese Embassy, Chinese Consulate, or from Chinese law enforcement agencies.

These callers request that the target pay a deposit to pick up a package or, alternatively, provide a wire transfer to avoid issues with their legal status, or to avoid arrest the next time they travel to China.

Needless to say, it’s always a scam – official channels will always send postal mail for issues like that.

  3. I get them very often. Xiaomi phones are the only ones I found so far that have a built in prefix based number blocking. That can block all those calls.

  4. I used to get a bunch of calls from Europe and Africa. Apparently they’re scam calls hoping you’ll call back, and if you do you’ll be connected to a chargeable line so they can charge fees to your phone bill. I don’t really use my phone for calling, so I set it so that only contacts can get through.

  5. Yes! Started maybe a month ago and I’ve had four or five of them. I never pick up unknown numbers (because legit callers can leave a message) and so they all went to voicemail. When I retrieved the voicemails, they were very short bursts of Chinese. (I’m not Chinese but I’ve lived in Hong Kong. I doubt they know that – they’re definitely robo-dialling a list.) I called one of the numbers using Skype so I couldn’t be traced and it seemed to be the support line of some US bank! That was a seven-digit number; the others were eight digits. Conclusion: They are 100% scam calls and looks like they are somehow spoofing 800 numbers. No solution right now other than blocking them one by one and waiting for them to tire, I guess.

  6. Maybe your phone number is “on a list” after being rested for a while they are re-used for new customers.
