Word of warning about Japan Universal and Nintendo land

Hey, so we just did nintendo land yesterday and had some pretty bad experiences I wanted to warm people about if they are planning to go.

Unless you are lined up ridiculously early or went for the e press pass, you will have to use the universal app to book a time to get into that part of the park. The issue we had was when I went to book for three people, for some reason the app messed up and only booked for 2 of us despite us all being on the same application. On top of that, it wouldn’t let us sign the third person up for anytime at all because an error message would pop up and prevent it. Basically one person just wouldn’t be able to enter no matter what we did.

We showed this to staff and had to run around while people tried the same things over and over for about 2.5 hours. They finally admitted this was a mistake on their part and they had never seen this before.

The worst part was that their only apparent solution was that we had no choice but to pay them an extra 2000Â¥ just for them to write a note saying we could go in and they explained how this was a “privilege” they were offering us.

We specifically came to universal to go to Nintendo land and found it pretty horrible that despite prooveing and them acknowledging that this was the fault of the park, they would do nothing for us unless we paid them more money. Given how much everything costs in the park it felt really greedy.

Please be warned because if something goes wrong on their end you will be the one paying for it.

  1. At least you got to go in, we had an issue and they didn’t let us in. It was our only reason to go to usj. We left shortly after.

  2. I was trying to buy the tickets on their site for an upcoming trip and struggled, so I just went the Klook route instead. I haven’t gone yet, but I was able to add the tickets into the USJ app already. The Express Passes aren’t in there yet but hopefully they work with no issue once we get in.

  3. The non japanese app is buggy. Just go manually register with their touch screens.

  4. Honestly you didn’t miss too much.

I went the week before Golden Week on a Wednesday (raining like crazy) and everyone was let into Nintendo land all day without a timed entry or queuing up. Less than 30 minute walk/wait on the mariokart ride. Pretty good ride, quite interactive. The Yoshi ride however was barely worth the walk to the front of the non-exiting queue. Huge line for the food places inside Nintendo world also.

Many other much better parts of the park exist. Harry Potter section was cool though, hope you got in there.

  5. While it looks like an interesting park, the amount of rigmarole required just to get in the gates makes it an absolute no go, for me. Like rats in a Kafkaesque maze, with added queues; no thanks.

  6. We went 3 weeks ago and we just got there before 9am , but we did have a problem with one of the wrist bands.

  7. Went to USJ years back before mario world and never felt the need to go back. The place is a mess

  8. Sorry that happened to you. I was there on the 12th of this month and booked just fine for 6 people.

  9. I’d recommend everyone wanting to go and not wanting to spend an extra 100$ on express passes to just get early entrance passes. When you enter with early entrance you can just walk into Nintendo land without the hassle of a time slot, only when the park officially opens at 9:30 you’d need a time slot to enter.

I’m so sorry your experience sucked though. It’s weird that they wouldn’t just own up to the mistake.

  10. That same thing happened to us. You have to restart the app, or add it to someone else’s app.

  11. I went to USJ yesterday too, but had no problem.
My suggestion is to start lining up at 8a at the park gates. Go straight to Nintendo World and you wont have to use the timed area pass. Go to the single rider line for Mariocart and you’ll get right in.
On my way out of Nintendo World at 9:30a I saw them checking timed passes, I looked in the app and the next available one wasn’t until 1p. So it pays to go early.
