Hi everyone. Just wondering if people have had this same issue with SMBC. I have their debit card/cash card, and it will not connect to my Apple Pay or Revolut account. I need it to pay for app subscriptions for apps I use regularly, as well as just general convenience. I had this issue earlier in the year, but kicked the problem down the road by using my bank account from my home country, but that account is empty now (sobs), so I need to connect my Japanese account.
I put in my card details exactly correct, but I keep getting an error message asking me to try again or contact the card issuer. On the SMBC website it says their cards should be usable with Apple at least, but it’s just not working for me. Has anyone else had this issue?

Apparently it works with “google pay” but that doesn’t help you.
SMBC credit, as well as some prepaid cards they manage (like d-card prepaid) are usable in Apple Pay.
You use the debit card itself for ID. The ID function on phones is only available on Android for now.

Do you mean you need to register the card in your Apple ID for payments in the App Store? This is a separate thing from Apple Pay (and IIRC you can’t actually use Apple Pay to pay for App Store purchases which is kind of weird). Apple Pay is only used for paying in stores/on the web with your phone instead of a physical card.
Is your Apple ID still set to your previous country? App Store accounts limit the allowed payment methods to cards from the same country, so you’ll need to switch to using an Apple ID with a Japanese billing address to pay with a Japanese card.
Switch to the Olive account (the app should’ve prompted you at least a few times to do so by now), that card will register to Apple Pay just fine. In fact, once you complete the switch in-app you’ll get a prompt to add the virtual card to Apple Pay so that you can keep spending from your account before you get your physical Olive card.
The Apple Pay Olive card is dual-mode iD and Visa. Paying by Visa contactless will follow the payment mode selected in-app, paying by iD will always debit from your bank account, not your credit line if you were approved for “credit mode”.
